Steady Focus Privacy Policy

Steady Focus is a browser extension for Chrome and Edge that blocks the websites you choose and can hide distracting feeds on a few sites. This policy explains what data the extension handles and where it goes.

Data stored in your browser

Settings. Your block list, allowlist, schedules, focus session defaults, filter choices and other options, plus the state of a running focus session, are stored in the extension's local storage.

Stats. Steady Focus keeps a count of blocked visits per site (the site's domain name only, like reddit.com) per day, and your focus minutes per day. Entries older than 90 days are deleted automatically. The weekly chart is shown only with Pro, but the counts stay in your browser either way.

Settings password. If you set one (Pro), only a salted PBKDF2 hash of it is stored locally, never the password itself.

Temporary session data. While the browser is open, the extension remembers the last page each tab could open, so the Back button on the block page can return there, and whether you recently unlocked the settings password. This is kept in session storage, which the browser clears when it closes.

Trial start date and license. The date your Pro trial started and, if you bought Pro, your license key, its activation ID and its last known status are stored in the extension's sync storage, so reinstalling on the same browser profile keeps them. If you use Chrome or Edge sync, the browser syncs this storage through your browser account. It is not sent to us.

How pages are checked

To block a site, the extension needs to know which page a tab is opening. It uses the browser's declarativeNetRequest rules to block requests to sites on your list, and webNavigation and tabs only to send a tab that opens a blocked page to the extension's own block page, to catch in-page navigations on single-page sites (like opening Shorts inside YouTube), to read the current tab's address when you click “Block this site”, and to move tabs already open on a blocked site to the block page when a focus session or schedule starts. Each address is compared with your block list inside your browser. It is not stored (apart from the temporary Back-button entry and the per-site counts above), logged or sent anywhere.

Distraction filters

The extension has access to five sites only: youtube.com, instagram.com, x.com, twitter.com and reddit.com. On those sites a small script hides the feeds you chose to filter (YouTube Shorts and home recommendations, Instagram Reels, the X “For you” feed, the Reddit home feed), and YouTube Shorts links are opened in the normal player. It does nothing unless you turn a filter on, and it doesn't read or collect anything from those pages. The extension doesn't request access to any other site.

License verification

If you enter a license key, the extension contacts our license service at license.steadytabs.com/v1/focus, which forwards the request to Creem, our payment provider:

No browsing data, block list, stats or settings are included in these requests. Without a license key, the extension makes no network requests at all; the free trial is tracked entirely in your browser.

Payments

Purchases are processed by Creem, which acts as the merchant of record. Payment happens on Creem's checkout page, not in the extension. Creem collects your name, email and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details from Creem so we can provide support, cancellations and refunds.

Permissions

All of the extension's code is included in the package; it doesn't load remote code.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received by Steady Focus adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information about the pages you open is used only to provide the extension's single purpose, blocking the sites you choose and hiding the feeds you choose to filter, and it is processed only in your browser. It is not transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, not used to determine creditworthiness, and not read by humans.

Data retention and deletion

Removing a site or schedule in the settings deletes it. Stats older than 90 days are deleted automatically. Uninstalling the extension deletes its locally stored data; the trial start date and license in sync storage may be kept by your browser's sync so a reinstall on the same profile reuses them. To free a license slot, use Remove from this browser before uninstalling. To delete your purchase records, email support@steadytabs.com.
